John Flanagan (American 1865 - 1952) Bronze Medal of Sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens, dated 1937. JF monogram lower left. In original presentation box. On reverse reads, 'In Honor of an American Sculptor, Augustus Saint Gaudens, Sculptors, dinner of the Medallic Art Company, NY April IX, MCMXXXVII. John F. Flanagan (also cited John Flannigan in early records; April 4, 1865–March 28, 1952) was a sculptor widely known for his statuary and plaquettes but recognized foremost for his designs of coinage and commemorative medals. Among his best known designs are the obverse (front) and reverse of the United States quarter dollar featuring the profile of George Washington, a coin that has been in continuous circulation with some modifications since 1932.
