Description
.45ACP, 5.5" barrel, S/N 1514. Blued finish, 14-groove hardwood grips. Single action semi-automatic Chinese made copy of the classic C96 "Broomhandle" Mauser, scaled up and chambered in .45 ACP. Originally produced in Shanxi (or Shansei) Arsenal during the Chinese War Lord period between WWI and WWII. This example appears to be one of the more recently produced copies imported during the 1980s. Left rear of frame with Chinese characters indicating the model is TYPE 17 and the right with a series of characters that indicate the manufacturing "arsenal" and the date 1929. Markings appear to be pantograph applied rather than roll die applied. Matching serial number 1514 found on upper left angled flat of chamber, top of bolt, left side of trigger and in ink inside both grips. Front strap marked CHINA / 45ACP and BTC / S. El Monte, CA. A nice example of a "curiosity" C96 without the price of a pre-WWII produced example.
Condition
Fine. Retains nearly all of the blue with crisp markings, sharp metal, fine edges and a bright, shiny bore. Mechanically functional, grips crisp with some light handling marks.
