Description
An early and dynamic example of cast, hammered, sculpted and engraved bronze, an outstanding piece, probably unique. The dished bottom, cast and hammered as well as the 'handle' in the form of a sculpted monkey god. The temple it was gifted or produced for is engraved on the upper surface of its lower rim. The collared standard and the god hold up an octagonally circular formation of its eight under sculpted oil pans, the finial urn is for 'perfume' ..giving off its fragrance as heated by the open lamp flames. An early survivor of pre 1600 to 1700 AD. In fine, complete and original condition. 4 1/2" high x 6 1/4" wide.
