Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca region, Narino, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a broad, globular form with a rounded base, a spherical body with a central carination, and sloped shoulder, and a narrow, flared rim surmounted by an openwork suspension loop. The exterior of black-hued vessel is decorated with repeating registers of orange-red serpentine bands separated by cream-hued stripes, and a series of brown and black stripes accentuate the handle exterior. The vessel is presented atop a modern wooden tripod display stand bound with lengths of animal sinew. Size: 6.8" Diameter x 8.125" H (17.3 cm x 20.6 cm); 10.8" H (27.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Light encrustations and abrasions, with minor fading and chipping to exterior pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to pigment throughout. Wooden stand is modern and has expected desiccation to sinew strands.
