Rhino-plasty: John Romita accelerates Peter Parker's makeover from scrawny nerd despised by his peers to handsome, motorcycle-riding ladies' man. Not only does Pete get new wheels in this ish, but he wises up about about his first love, Betty Brant ("I realize now — we NEVER had anything in common!"), starts a flirtation with Gwen Stacy ("Lady, there's a LOT you don't know about me! But stick around — I'm planning to EDUCATE you!"), and prepares to meet Mary Jane Watson ("Wouldn't it be funny if she's a real DOLL?"). One of the most important post-Ditko issues in terms of Peter Parker's character development.
