The source of Dr. Wertham's umbrage is a panel depicting murder and mutilation, although EC fans are likelier to be outraged by the blatant cover swipe from Jack Davis's splash page for Vault of Horror #26. The cover, possibly by Myron Fass, actually features two swipes for the price of one: the corpse is pure Davis, but the screaming gal is cribbed from Ross Andru's cover to Adventures into Darkness #10. Fass would go on to become one of the sleaziest magazine publishers of the 1970s, peddling a plethora of drecky mags in the worst possible taste, before sinking into paranoia and self-imposed isolation.
