AN IRISH VICTORIAN SILVER PRESENTATION CLARET JUG, Dublin c.1844 , mark of Robert Smith, of lobed baluster form, with acanthus wrapped and beaded s-scroll handle, the hinged lid with cast fruiting vine finial set within the naturalistic spout formed as a shell, with raised wavy rim above a section of heavily chased strings of beaded decoration, the body with chased foliate decoration and cast flower heads, having a central cartouche inscribed Bray Harrier's Hunt, Member's Race Challenge Cup, presented by W.J. Costelloe Esq. 1945, raised on a skirt of further cast vine leaves above spreading naturalistic cast and chased base of fruiting vines (c. 39 troy ozs), 36.5cm high, 14.5cm at its widest point; on fitted plinth base with plaque inscribed Bray Harriers hunt Member's Race, Won by Captain Patrick R. Stokes Grizzle 1951 - '52 - '53. 47.5cm high including plinth
