Haunted Glen

1928

The ethereal depiction of a Brothers Grimm-like sycamore tree in deep woods at first light, or last, with snow and a hidden pool is signed by the artist lower right front. The title 'Haunted Glen' is painted on the top stretcher in deep blue paint and written by fountain pen on a Grand Central Galleries exhibition card dated 1928 verso.

The work measures 18 x 24 inches.

Provenance: A New Jersey estate.

Condition

Very good condition, noting two small punctures, original canvas, stretchers and label, no relining. Examination under UV light shows a contrast in some areas that look more like reworking by the artist than restoration. For instance, an entire branch. See the images under UV light.
