Description
American Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Sofa
third quarter 19th century, in the manner of John Henry Belter, New York, the elaborate crest rail pierced and carved with conjoined scrolls, cornucopia and foliate motifs, the tall center crest with a cluster of various flowers.
h. 51", w. 87-1/2", d. 33"
Notes: This settee relates closely to the "Bird" pattern parlor furniture which examples can be found at Bayou Bend and The Smithsonian Institute. It is constructed of several layers of thin laminations, much like that as seen on Belter's parlor furniture.

Condition
**In very good condition. There is a small loss of the carving on the right side of the curved back. Minor
shrinkage cracks on each side of the floral crest. The left rear leg has an old repaired and glued crack.
The fabric is clean and unworn. Appears to retain its original finish with a very pleasing patina.
