Italian Walnut and Fruitwood Commode

late 18th century, the banded and shaped rectangular top centered by a panel scene of classical characters, flanked to either side by winged female warriors, above a conforming case fitted with two short drawers over two long drawers, all with foliate scrolling and mythical inlaid creatures, raised on cabriole legs ending in scrolled toes.

**In overall good condition. The piece appears to have been French-polished and restored in the past. The restorations included a number of marquetry and veneer repairs as well as filling some shrinkage cracks. Drawers slide freely. Locks are present; no keys. One upper drawer has a veneer loss to its perimeter banding, about 3/4" x 1". There are some small spots of lighter finish, presumably from water, most notably to one side of the case.
