The offered lot was one of 30 designs made by George Nakashima for a model home in visionary mid-century real estate developer Edmund Bennett's Valleyview Carderock Springs development in Bethseda, Maryland. Carderock Springs was a development of 400 homes known for clean designs, open floor plans and living spaces that opened to the outdoors. In 2009, this community was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a prime example of 'situated modernism', an architectural style where the built environment is gracefully integrated into the natural surroundings.

This bench is accompanied by a copy of 'The Soul of a Tree' by George Nakashima.

Overall good condition. Upon close inspection 1 x 1/8 inch white scuff to one end edge. Scattered fine, light unobtrusive scratches and nicks to edges and top, consistent with use and display. 3/4 x 1 1/4 inch small loss to front long edge. 2 x 3/4 inch criss-cross split to upper front edge in center, can likely be filled. Faint double ring to left side top, measuring 3 inches in diameter.
