Set of Regency Ebony-Inlaid Mahogany and Fiddleback Mahogany Bedsteps in the manner of George Oakley
Circa 1800
The stepped back flanked by inlaid acroteria above leather-lined treads, the uppermost opening to a well, the second hinged tread sliding forward and opening to a line-inlaid hinged panel, raised on tapering square legs, on casters. Height 32 1/2 inches (82.5 cm), width 22 inches (55.8 cm), depth 30 inches (76.2 cm).

Good quality but in fair condition, possibly reduced in height, stepped back loose, losses to right side of hinged top at juncture of back, losses to veneers, leather treads distressed, with scuffs, scratches, water stains, etc., , top front of second tread with rectangular patch, brass sunken handle probably later, lacking line inlay to bottom of feet above casters, casters probably later, shrinkage and age cracks to sides.
