Pair of Spanish Giltwood and Red-Painted Columns
Early 18th century, possibly Mexican
Each with stylized Corinthian capital above a chevron-carved flaring column above a foliate- and scroll-carved base centered by a cartouche, raised on an ebonized square base; the back of one capital with a label and inked inscription 'Mexico / 8', the base of one with label numbered '2430'. Height 85 inches (216 cm), width (square) of base 15 inches (38.1 cm).

Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc., New York, The Collection of Helena Rubenstein (Princess Gourielli), April 22-23, 1966, lot 572.
A period photograph shows Helena Rubinstein with one of the columns in her New York apartment at 625 Park Avenue. Mr. Prigent photographed Ms. Rubinstein several times, fueling his interest in acquiring items that had belonged to her.
