Description
Attributed Ephraim Stahl (Swedish, 1768-1820), circa 1802. Set of twelve Gustavian empire painted wooden and composition dining side chairs, having curved upholstered backs, foliate splat flanked by Greco-Egyptian caryatid supports, upholstered seats with laurel garlands and rosette corner blocks to apron, and rising on front tapering foliate carved front legs. Apparently unmarked. Note: The work of Ephraim Stahl can be found in several Swedish royal palaces including Stockholm Palace and Rosersberg. Provenance: acquired from Bruun Rasmussen, Copenhagen. Approx. of one, h. 34", w. 20.25", d. 19"; seat h. 17".

Three with breaks to back supports; three with breaks or joint separation to stiles; later decoration and overpaint; some losses to composition decoration; loss trim and stains to upholstery..
