Description
With a two candle slides, a fitted interior, with tooled leather document cases and writing surfaces, raised on cabriole legs ending in sabots.
42 3/4 x 4 ft. 3 in. x 29 1/2 in.
Note: While apparently unsigned, this bureau à cylindre with its musical trophies and reserves with quarter veneered panels within broad scroll outlines relates to the work of Denis Gentry (maître in 1754). A closely related bureau bearing the maker's stamp was sold by Drouot, Paris, lot 205. Another is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Francais du XIIIe Siecle, p. 354. Other possible makers are Francois Bayer and Francois-Gaspard Teune, for which there is a small scale example in the Louvre inlaid with floral bouquets.
Property from the Estate of Nancy Moreland BomontiCondition
