GERMAN MEISSEN PORCELAIN MONKEY BAND CONDUCTOR FIGURE, standing on a molded round base with gilt accents, depicting an expressive anthropomorphic primate with mouth agape, arms and front right leg raised, holding a rolled piece of paper in right hand, wearing a long, curly 18th century-style wig, with bright polychrome clothing. Marks to underside include underglaze blue crossed swords with impressed "65" and hand-brushed "17". Royal Porcelain Manufactory, Meissen, Germany. 20th century. 7 1/8" HOA.

Catalogue Note: Modeled after the mid 18th century examples by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Peter Reinicke, who based their figural monkey band on drawings by Christophe Huet (1692-1765).
