Description
Italian, Guardia-Mangano near Acireale, Sicily. Sicilian Painted Side Chair, decorated with a the dual between Turiddu and Alfio, from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana by Vincenzo Bellini. Painted allover in polychrome, the stiles headed by finials carved as heads, with a rope woven seat, on straight legs joined by stretchers. Height back to floor 35 in. Height seat to floor 16 in. Width of seat 17 in.

Examples are housed in various public collections, such as; the Musee d Le Homme, Paris, the Musee De Arte, Catania, Italy, and in Museums in Leningrad and Tokyo. Of special note are examples in the Collection of Queen Elizabeth II, and a full-sized painted cart was reputed to be given to John F. Kennedy, while President.
