Description
A special edition Royal Quiet De Luxe portable typewriter in its signature gold-plated finish, with an attractive reptile-embossed leather carrying case. The case bears a David Typewriter Company (Sacramento) retailer tag. Measures 7" x 13" x 13" in the carrying case.
The limited gold-plated edition began production in 1947, and all production of the flagship Quiet De Luxe was ceased in 1959. Ian Fleming commissioned one of these special edition models in 1952 to use to write Casino Royale, the first James Bond novel; his gold-plated Quiet De Luxe typewriter would go on to set the auction record for a typewriter when Christie's sold it for nearly $90,000 in 1995.
