Description
1930 Dizzy Dean Purchased by St. Louis Cardinals Contract. A Hall of Fame career was begun with the implementation of this "Uniform Agreement for the Assignment of a Player's Contract to or by a Major League Club." The historic text reads, in part, "This Agreement, made and entered into this 20th day of August, 1930 by and between Houston Baseball Club and St. Louis National Baseball Club. Witnesseth: The party of the first part hereby assigns to the party of the second part the contract of player J.H. Dean according to the Rules adopted under the Major League Agreement and the Major-Minor League Agreement and upon the following conditions (including any provisions set forth upon the back of this agreement): For, and in consideration of the sum of eight thousand five hundred ($8,500) dollars." The document is signed at the close by representatives of each team in perfect fountain pen ink, and the single page remains in splendid undamaged condition. Rarely have documents relating to the very start of a Hall of Fame career been made available to collectors, and this relic stands as one of the most salient and seminal Gashouse Gang pieces ever to surface in the hobby. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
