Two William IV Scottish chip-engraved bottles
The first of shaft and globe form and of dark olive tint, chip engraved with the name JOHN CALDER above the badge of the Incorporation of Cordiners, a union spray and depictions of a shoe and a boot, a clipper, a plough, the date 1834 the following mottos:
'by industry we prosper
To work you go the seasons now,
Strive on Brave Boys
and Speed the Plough',
If Cupid shou'd aim his dart
To play to you a plenty
By Edition to Wown'd you're Heart
Drown ye the Rogues wi whisky
If sair opprest wi worlds cares
An a' thing round serves justly
In bundles pack ye up sic fears
An' just drown them in whisky'
25cm high; together with another chip-engraved bottle of similar form and of green tint, engraved with the name MARY MATHESON and dated 1831, further engraved with a clipper, a thistle and the the motto BY INDUSTRY WE PROSPER, the neck repaired with a silvered metal collar and rim, 24cm high. (2)
