Ben Shahn (Kaunas, Lithuania, September 12, 1898 - March 14, 1969) was a Lithuanian-born painter, illustrator, graphic artist, photographer and writer who developed his career in the United States. He is known for his works of social realism, his left-wing political views, and his dissertations published in The Shape of Content.Shahn's subsequent series of papers on California worker leader Tom Mooney earned him the recognition of Diego Rivera. In May and June 1933, he was Diego Rivera's assistant while Rivera worked on the infamous Rockefeller Center mural.
