Numerous politicians and preachers such as Fisher Ames and Nathan Strong gave polarizing speeches memorializing the life and death of the first American president. In his speech, or ‘Funeral Sermon’ on Washington, Nathan Strong recognized the emotions of the nation, but also pressed on the high character that Washington possessed in his military and political careers.
This 1800 first edition pamphlet of Strong’s ‘Discourse on the Death of Washington’ includes a short biographical sketch of the life of Washington at the end.
