Description
A pair of Roman iron nails, early 1st Century AD, of the type often referred to as crucifixion nails due to the size. These nails were made within 45 years of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which most likely occurred in 33 AD. If it were not for the archaeological context of their discovery, these nails would be indistinguishable from the crucifixion nails used in Judea at the time. These nails were part of a discovery found by Sir Ian Richmond in 1961 while excavating the Roman fortress of Inchtuthil in Roman Britain. Longest 4 in (10.3 cm). Ex Harlen J. Berk; Ex Clark collection, Santa Barbara.
