Item Details
Description
Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937). "Palm Beach Lady" 2006. Hand signed on the upper right. An impressive, large-scale work by Peter Max, a mixed media composition with hand-painted acrylic throughout and color lithography on paper, that is hand-signed by the artist. Delineated in Max's signature bold style with painterly brushstrokes and vibrant color juxtapositions, this piece presents a classic theme of ethereal beauty. Each work in Max's Palm Beach Lady series was hand-painted by the artist and is a unique work of art. Max presents the profile of an elegant female wearing a white blouse adorned with ruby red ring-like motifs. The sunny tangerine and marigold yellow background provides a wonderful contrast for the cool hues of the woman's complexion and coiffure which are lavishly delineated in shades of violet, teal, royal blue, sky blue, midnight blue, lavender, periwinkle, snow white, and ruby red. All is set in a beautiful custom frame. Size: 36" L x 24" W (91.4 cm x 61 cm) Size of frame: 51.5" L x 39.5" W (130.8 cm x 100.3 cm)

Born in Berlin, Peter Max moved frequently with his family, living in more than six countries until they settled in the United States. Max studied in New York City at the Art Students League, the Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Art. Max has been revered as a visionary Pop Artist since the 1960's, beloved for his "Cosmic '60s" style which would later evolve to Neo Expressionism. Max developed a bold style of painting using striking Fauvist colors and intriguing themes. As he evolved from Pop to Neo-Expressionism, his work became more painterly and sensuous. Max's unique symbolism and vibrant color palette have continued to inspire new generations of Americans throughout the decades.
