Die ntuatire genannten Schirmaufsätze der Asante gehören zu den typischen Regalien am Hof. Die Sonnenschirme werden nebst der primären Funktion als Prestige-Objekte bei allen offiziellen Anlässen als zentrale Elemente der Prozessionen mitgeführt.

Diese sehr frühe Darstellung zeigt einen Träger des königlichen Schatzes, hier eine vermutlich metallene Truhe in Fassform, in der alle wesentlichen Preziosen des Herrschers aufbewahrt wurden. Eine schöne Beschreibung einer Prozession liefert Eva Meyerowitz in "The Akan of Ghana" (siehe weiter unten).

Zu bemerken ist nebst der ausserordentlich feinen Ausführung der Schnitzarbeit die vollständig mit dickem Goldblech überzogene Oberfläche der Figur (Gold-Silberlegierung im Feingehalt von 55% Gold, 30% Silber).

Doran Ross schreibt zu diesen Schirmspitzen: „Decorated umbrella finials (ntuatire) probably have a longer history than the finials on counselors’staffs (fig. 4.37, 4.38). In 1817 Bowdich recorded umbrellas „crowned on the top with crescents, pelicans, elephants, barrels and arms and swords of gold.“ He also noted finials of „various animals naturally stuffed“ (1819 [1966], 34). The latter are no longer found on umbrellas, but all of the former motifs, except perhaps the pelican, can still be seen in various Asante and other Akan states.“

Auch bei Timothy Garrard in "Afrikanisches Gold" (1989) findet sich folgende wertvolle Passage: „Schirmaufsätze (kyinie akyi) sind aus Holz geschnitzt und mit Blattgold überzogen. Sie sind Symbole für die Weisheit und Macht des Fürsten und stellen oft eine Anspielung auf ein Akan-Sprichwort dar (Abb. 70). Bei grossen öffentlichen Veranstaltungen vermitteln diese funkelnden Zeichen der ganzen Volksmenge ihre Botschaft; von weither sichtbar, erscheinen sie wirbelnd und tanzend über einem majestätischen Baldachin aus Seide.“

Zur Darstellung der tragenden Person erfahren wir bei Meyerowitz in "The Akan of Ghana" (1958) mehr zu einer beobachteten Prozession: „The Death and Resurrection of the Divine Kin on New Year’s Day […] At the head walk the Queenmother’s stool-carriers with the low white stools for the royal wives, and the offerings; they are followed by the royal wives, who are guarded by four adumfo (formerly executioners of human sacrifices), holding long, straight swords.

After them, beneath one of the state-umbrellas, walks the Sannaahene, or chief treasurer, who is the son of a former king, carrying the puduo in the sannaa bag. The puduo consists of gold nuggets separately wrapped, each of which represents the kra of one royal ancestor; and above them lies Bosummuru’s gold dagger. The whole collection, still in the sannaa bag, is placed in a brass basin and covered with a white sheet.

Behind this official, under a smaller umbrella, walks the Akyeamehene, or chief of the royal spokesmen, followed by the Silver Stool, which the chief of the stool-bearers carriers - another stool-carrier is entrusted with the white stool for the puduo. Behind these, the Akrafohene is borne in the King’s palanquin - a long, basket-shaped litter - flanked on either side by the akrafo, holding scimitars with hilts decorated in white and gold.

Next come the stool-sons, many of them weeping at seeing their father, the King, deprived of his kingship. They are flanked by bearers of guns; and the drummers with the huge state drums bring up the tail of the procession.“
