Description:
Lithographed real estate map with lots for sale numbered and dimensions given. 31x32 cm (12¼x12½").
Map showing the lots for sale on 14 blocks, lettered A through N, bounded by Santa Fe Ave. at the bottom, Kensington Park at the top, crossed by Berkeley Park Ave., Cerrito Ave., Ocean View Ave, Colusa Ave, etc. Berkeley Park is on the eastern slope of the Berkeley Hills, entirely outside of the city of Berkeley, within Contra Costa County. House numbers follow the pattern used in Berkeley, and Kensington shares two zip codes with the Berkeley hills area. Land development companies had bought most of the Kensington area by 1911, when it was first surveyed. The area was named "Kensington" in 1911 by Robert Brousefield, a surveyor who had lived in the London borough of South Kensington at one time. The first subdivisions were Berkeley Park and Kensington Park and west of Arlington Avenue, with most streets named for locations in England. Oriented with ENE at the top. No copies in OCLC.
