Significant work on geologic history, issued as Treatise VI of "The Bridgewater Treatises on the Power, Wisdom and Goodness of God, as Manifested in the Creation." This series contained works of greater relevance than the title may imply in this modern age, being attempts to rectify the increasingly materialistic discoveries of science with the theological concept of a universal god.
The present work has an excellent series of fossil and geological plates, and a marvelous hand-colored panorama of an ideal section of a portion of the Earth's crust, showing the various strata, and the age of deposits, and the flora and fauna whose fossils appear in the different strata. If not a blow to creationism, at least a query. With the bookplates of John Sinkankas.
