Description
An "Uncle Sam" Cast Iron Mechanical Bank
Attributed to Shepard Hardware Co., Buffalo, New York, Late 19th Century
with bobble beard mechanism and latch that moves the figure's arm downward to drop a coin into the bag beneath it which simultaneously opens; marked Pat. June 8 1886 to underside.
Height 11 1/4 x width 5 x depth 4 inches.

Condition
With coins in the base. Later paint to base. Scattered loss to paint throughout and surface grime. Some crazing to the paint surface around the figure's eyes. The door in the back of the base detached, currently held in place with tape.
