TWO AFRICAN YORUBA PEOPLE BRASS MALE/FEMALE EDAN OGBONI SOCIETY STAFF FINIALS, NIGERIAN, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the seated pair chained to each other and cast on tapering wrought iron spikes, the male wearing a cord cap with loop attachment above a broad forehead with conforming uni-brow and elliptical bulging eyes, flanked by paired rings over a sloped disc form jaw issuing short barbs, above a short neck adorned with a beaded necklace and broad torso with noodle arms crossed over his chest, above a domed disc groin pendant and disc beaded waistlet before his noodle like bent legs with feet resting on the cylinder base over the tapering iron spike, height: 19", width: 4 3/4", depth: 4"; she similarly modeled and wearing a basket weave cap with loop attachment over similar facial features, above a torso with hands covering small breasts over a protruding belly button ball and cord waistlet revealing stylized genitalia, before same shaped legs, cylinder, and spike, height: 18", width: 3 1/2", depth: 3 3/8", mounted on a custom black-painted rectangular wood base.
