ISOBEL RAÉ (Australian/French 1860-1940) A WWI DRAWING, "Green House Y.M.C.A.," ÉTAPLES, DECEMBER 1917, pastel on tinted paper, signed, dated and placed L/R, "Iso Rae, Etaples, December 1917, greenhouse, YMCA," verso a paper label. 17 3/4" x 11 1/2" Note: British officers walk beside parked horse and buggy carts towards the Green House with lights in the windows. "Iso was an important Australian Impressionist artist living near Étaples, France, when the area became a large military occupied ground in World War I. The Y.M.C.A. provided services to servicemen at the camp. Rae made approximately 200 sketches of the camp, men and facilities."
