Item Details
Description
Northwestern Europe, England, London, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A pair of antique tablespoons made from sterling silver with the maker marks for George Smith III, ca. 1774. The spoons are matching, both the same size and style with broad bowls and simple handles that flare to a slightly curved finial. The verso of the stem is stamped with the maker mark in script "GS," the British sterling mark of a lion, a city mark of a crowned leopard head, and a date letter, which is rubbed. The stamps are mostly legible on one spoon, but are soft and mostly indiscernible on the other, but are likely the same on both. A lovely pair of classic Georgian style spoons to add to any collection! Size of each: 8.35" L x 1.6" W (21.2 cm x 4.1 cm); silver quality: 93.8%; total weight: 125.4 grams

Provenance: private J. P. collection, Rye, Colorado, USA; ex-Bill Buffinger collection, Hollywood, California, USA, purchased May 11, 2004; ex-Antique Market of Burlingame, Burlingame, California, USA
