East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden altar table of a wide, rectangular form with an openwork base decorated with incredibly lustrous gilding. The auspicious table has a carved frontal panel featuring 2 stylized birds, several trees, a central pagoda, and a mountain in the background. Several brass appliques are etched with dense foliage motifs and applied around the upper periphery. The uppermost platform has a pair of protruding handles that enable its smooth, seamless removal if desired. Covered in dark brown lacquer and accentuated with golden gilding, this is a fantastic carving meant to adorn any home! Size: 30.625" L x 5.3" W (77.8 cm x 13.5 cm)

Repairs to all four openwork legs, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor abrasions to handles, top platform, and openwork motifs, with chipping to gilding in some areas, and nicks to some lacquered areas. Great patina and lovely remains of gilt.
