Heavy black wool jersey knit in a classic A-line shape has a fold-over (turtleneck) collar in a ribbed knit with matching cuffs. It also has hidden, on-seam pockets, zips up the back, is fully lined, and is in flawless condition. This dress is a classic design from the mid-20th Century that clearly presages the "mod" character of 1960s fashion. There are no labels in the dress, so here's why we are attributing it to such a dominating force in mid-century American clothing design, Norman Norell (or possibly "Traina-Norell" which preceded the Norman Norell label): We acquired the dress with several other labeled Norell pieces, so we had these items for comparison. Secondly, by the mid-twentieth century, Norell's wool jersey dresses were staples of the Norell label. His fashions were famous for their simplicity, timeless design, and high-quality construction - criteria of which this dress is exemplary. No size label, so based on the measurements we are estimating the dress to be size 4-6, possibly an 8 if the shoulder width is wide enough.
