Aleut and Tlingit Baskets

lot of 2, includes:
a large Tlingit basket decorated with falsely embroidered geometric designs
height 6-3/4 inches x diameter 8 inches
Aleut burden basket with braided open work rim and tumpline; linear elements, falsely embroidered with red, blue, and cream yarn, decorate the upper third of the basket Â
height 10 inches x diameter 11 inches
Collected by Paul Cowles (1945-2020), Rush, New York.
Cowles was a lifetime collector of First Nations Art and Artifacts, as well as fine firearms and other militaria and Americana. As a US Army Veteran serving in SE Asia in the early and mid-1960's many of his collecting interests revolved around the US military and sporting arms.
