Vintage Sterling Amethyst Marcasite Ring, Size 7, with pear shaped amethyst stones. Weight is 4.43 grams. It has four amethyst stones that are appx. 6mm by 4mm. The band is 11.3mm at top center of the finger and tapers down to 2.9 at the back. The marcasites are in a lower wave like design that meander around the raised bezel-set amethyst stones. The stones test as amethyst but are liked a created stone but have the same properties as a natural amethyst. Amethyst is the easiest stone to create and also the most difficult to test for natural vs. created as they are naturally a clear stone and you rarely can see features in the stone that tell you it is natural. Unfortunately, that has lowered the price of natural amethysts because it takes very expensive testing equipment to verify natural versus created stones. This is a very pretty wide ring. Made well. Tested and marked sterling. There is a triangular mark or A signed also on the inside of the band. 1980's. It is in good condition with light wear. This came from a PA estate estate sale.
