Description
Waterside scene with colorful rowboats, gray clapboard building, dock, and shorebirds by Joseph Norris. Called 'the Dean of Canadian Folk Art', Norris's work is featured in many museums, galleries, exhibitions, books and periodicals. Norris began painting in 1972 when a heart attack cut short his work as a fisherman. He painted all day long, hanging his work on the outside of his fishing shack, selling now and then to locals and tourists, until in 1975 an antique dealer named Chris Huntington brought his work to a wider audience, and his fame began to spread. Signed lower right 'Joe Norris' and dated 198? (the last digit is hidden under the picture frame.) Frame, approx. 16" x 13". Sight, approx. 11" x 8 1/8".
