Description
This is a hand-held viewing filter, containing transparent dark blue glass, used to view color scenes in a continuous monotone (tag reads "filter to render a continuous tone").
Such a device helped the photographer envision how the tones of the view would look when rendered in black and white.
It is estimated to be ca. 1890s, and measures 10 by 7½ inches.
