Description
Antique Hungarian folk embroidery called Irasos or "written embroidery" from the Western Transylvania Kalotaszeg region, madder red wool embroidery on woven hemp ground; three panels. Such wall hangings were produced to commemorate ceremonies, as gifts for the church and dowry pieces. Size: 69.5'' x 58'' (177 x 147 cm). Provenance: Philadelphia Main Line estate.
