Description
Ten original preliminary graphite sketches by Lobel, on six sheets, including seven sketches featured in the "A swim" chapter, and three sketches featured in the "A Kite" chapter; smallest sheet measuring, 6 3/8 x 4 1/2 in. (162 x 114 mm), largest sheet measuring, 9 x 11 5/8 in. (229 x 295 mm); scattered pencil smudging in sketches. Lot includes a first edition of the Frog and Toad Pop-Up Book, 1986.
A fine example of one of Lobel's classic Frog and Toad adventures, featuring 10 incredible preliminary sketches for illustrations featured in the book. They were used as models by Dick Dudley and Rodger Smith in paper-engineering the mechanics for several of the moveable aspects of the book's design. This is one of the last books Lobel published before he died in 1987, and the only pop-up book in his oeuvre.
From the estate of Arnold Lobel.
