Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1926) era, circa 1900
The deep, circular dish finely painted in polychrome enamels and gilt with a central cherry-blossom shaped reserve containing a scene of a samurai procession crossing a bridge after leaving the Nikko Shrine, the surrounding areas decorated with a dense ground of maple leaves and cherry blossoms on cobalt, the reverse decorated with simple floral sprays against a cobalt ground, signed on the image in red enamel Sozan, and on the underside in gilt Kinkozan tsukuru and Sozan
