John Arthur Johnson, nicknamed the "Galveston Giant", was an American boxer who, at the height of the Jim Crow era, became the first Black American world heavyweight boxing champion.This folder was from Johnson's manager who handled him after his retirement. The folder contains personal correspondence between the two, including Johnson's ideas including coming out of retirement. Most are aware that this folder was purchased at one of our previous auctions. The buyer came in, took photos, and it was given back to us. The buyer is doing a documentary on Johnson and needed the information contained in this folder.
