Description
A group of six Chinese stone snuff bottles dating from the 19th century. The group includes: a moss agate snuff bottle with quartz geodes, includes a stopper; a white and orange agate snuff bottle with beast head handles with engaged rings, includes a jadeite stopper with a spoon; an orange agate snuff bottle with beast head handles with engaged rings, includes a green glass stopper; a white and orange rectangular agate snuff bottle with beast head handles, includes a stopper with a spoon; a red and green jasper snuff bottle with no stopper; and lastly, a dark brown and white agate snuff bottle with a stopper.
Dimensions are: the largest, rectangular snuff bottle measures 2 1/2 inches tall X 1 1/2 inches wide, 6.4 cm X 3.8 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: The moss agate snuff bottle has a minuscule chip to the rim, and the bottom is incised "CHINA"; its stopper has been glued. The white and orange snuff bottle has a star crack and a chip to the bottom. The orange agate snuff bottle has a repair to the bottom, and the stopper has been glued. The rectangular agate snuff bottle has a chip to the bottom. The jasper snuff bottle has chipping to the rim and lower body. The dark brown agate snuff bottle has cracks and star cracks to the body, a chip to the bottom, and its stopper has been glued.
Provenance: From the estate of Mr. Mullen in Upstate New York. Mr. Mullen was a world traveler and collected from different countries from the 1950s to the 1980s.
