(Paramount, 1977) A paper filming slate from the early Steven Spielberg sci-fi classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, from the collection of a former studio employee. The cardstock slate has the film's title and the Paramount studio logo printer at the top, labeled fields for Sequence, Description, Scene, Take, and more, and color bars in the lower margin. Most of the blanks are filled in with black felt pen. Dated "6/21/76," the slate is marked "Mother" in the sequence field, "DWP Monitor Room" in the description field, and "Test" in the scene field, suggesting that it was used in setting up shots of the film's iconic Mothership filming miniature. The piece measures 8.5"x11" and is in very good condition with corner bends and minor handling.
