Item Details
Description
Antique Art Nouveau coffee pot with lid, transfer design, pattern #349/4, Bauer & Pfeiffer, Schorndorf, Kingdom of Wurttemberg. The porcelain mark on the bottom was in use 1904-1934. Based on the transfer design [irregular lithographic dots], the pot was created in 1900s-1910s.

The coffee pot is c.8.1/2" [21.6cm] tall, c.4.3/4" [12.1cm] across at the bottom, c.7" [17.8cm] wide including handle, no chips, no hairlines, some surface and gold wear, especially handle [see photos]; very good condition.

Bauer & Pfeiffer Porcelain Manufacturing Company, Schorndorf, Wurttemberg, was founded in 1904. The product range at first included fine coffee and tea sets as well as dinnerware, some of which either carried the mark stating 'Alt-Ludwigsburg' or showed a mark similar to the Ludwigsburg crown mark in recognition of the fine sets made in Ludwigsburg. Even if this procedure was not legally secured, the Prince of Wuerttemberg did not intervene as the marks did differ in a way that made them easy to identify. Based on the experience with normal household sets the company also started experiments with hotel porcelain in 1910 which proved successful. The business grew quite rapidly, soon exporting goods and showing a total workforce of 200 people in 1913. As business was very promising, the company was transformed into a (stock) corporation in 1917. The company was quite successful for some time, but then ran into financial problems and had to close in 1934.
