Illustrated with 500 plates, 300 are chromolithographs (many with gold and silver highlights), 200 are duo-tone lithographs; some double-page plus some wood engravings. 22.2x19.2 cm (8¾x7½"), bound in three-quarter brown morocco with buckram boards, ruled in gilt; raised bands, spine sections tooled in gilt; top edges gilt, other edges deckled, marbled endpapers. First Edition, octavo issue.

Racinet's masterwork on the historic dress of the world, perhaps the most famous of all chromolithograph costume books of the 19th century, as valuable a resource today as it was when it was first issued, the lovely color plates still bright and striking.

Condition

Touches of wear and scuffing to leather, minuscule chipping to ends of spines; occasional foxing and age-toning to pages, plates largely clean and bright throughout, some tender hinges, bindings solid; very good.
