**First Time At Auction**

American, Southwest, ca. late 19th to early 20th century. A fabulous watercolor painting of men on horseback engaged in a battle against one another. The man riding the black horse in the foreground wears chaps, a long-sleeved shirt, and a cowboy hat over his long black hair. To help convey the action, the artist has depicted him turning back about 45 degrees while aiming his gun at his enemy, and all of the horses are galloping full speed ahead. In the distance, we see a horse without a rider to the left, and three horses with riders to the right. One of those riders appears to be somewhat less westernized than the rider in the foreground, as he wears a full feather headdress and wields a spear. All is set in a quintessentially expansive western landscape. Size of painting: 7.625" L x 10.75" W (19.4 cm x 27.3 cm) Size of frame: 16.25" L x 19.25" W (41.3 cm x 48.9 cm)

Painting has not been examined outside the frame. It appears to have areas of foxing, but is otherwise quite nice. Custom frame has minor scuffs, but is otherwise very nice, wired for suspension, and ready to display.
