Description
**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Southwestern United States, likely Navajo, ca. 1950s to 1960s CE. A striking bolo tie with a braided leather cord and a silver, turquoise, coral, glass, and shell owl pendant. The owl is formed by a series of 95% silver bezels that create the individual feathers and perch for the bird. From the end of the leather cord are conical 93.3% silver finials that dangle from both tips. The clasp on the owl's verso still articulates and is stamped "Bennett Pat. Pend. C 31," which helps date this piece. The Bennett C 31 clasp was introduced in the mid 1950s and was a hugely popular among bolo artists until it was discontinued in the 1960s. This is a wearable bolo, and the clasp is in great condition to adjust the size of the cord. Size of owl pendant: 2.5" L x 1.375" W (6.4 cm x 3.5 cm); cord doubled: 20" L (50.8 cm); silver quality: 93.3% to 95%
Bolo pendant cannot be easily removed from leather cord for accurate weighing.
