Description
**Originally Listed At $250**
South Asia, India, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. An interesting copper repousse panel featuring a deity, likely Shiva, and attendants under an arch. The panel is constructed from two sheets, one with the repousse scene, and another flat back panel with an integral loop for suspension; the two sheets are conjoined and folded along the edges. The image depicts a four-armed Shiva wearing a knee length garment with skulls along the hem. In each hand are attributes, including a sword and trident. At his side is the cow headed god, Nandi, and a woman, perhaps Parvati. The ornate arch has two pillars surmounted with avian creatures, perhaps representing Garuda. In the top corner of the panel is a recumbent cow and a lingam, symbols of Lord Shiva. A warm patina covers this devotional piece, and the integral loop makes this panel easy to mount and display! Size: 6" L x 4.625" W (15.2 cm x 11.7 cm)
Provenance: private Louisville, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Rio Gralnick collection, Boulder, Colorado, USA
