Description
A collection of 18th c. and early 19th c. documents relating to Richard Oswald of Auchincruive (1705 – 1784), who is best known for negotiating the 1782 Peace of Paris which ended the American Revolutionary War. Lot includes a manuscript account of his death written by his wife, with corrections; an apparently unrecorded pamphlet addressed to him on final blank verso; a 1780 autograph letter addressed to him from David Carnegie; a letter from Richard Herries dated 1774; a slightly later ledger leaf being an account of home repairs and/or expenses; a 14 pg. manuscript (heartbreaking) account of the death of a young child in the family in 1813.
