Description
Japanese, 19th century, the kabuto (helmet) is a peach-shaped bowl black lacquered and fitted with a three lame shikoro (neck guard) laced with blue cord. The menpo (mask) is a hanbo (half mask) that covers the wearers cheeks and chin. Formed with a defined jaw line and attached bellow is a yodarekake (throat guard) of chain mail decorated with a chrysanthemum. The Do (cuirass) is kirisuke iyozane style of horizontal plates fastened bycross knots of leather with hinge on the left side. The sleeves are mail sewn onto a blue and white fabric. The kusazuri (skirt plates) is a composite reinforced with metal strips and edged with bear fur. Together with an armour box and a wood stand.
